guarantor information

To secure a room at the Lulworth Student Company, we require all applicants to have a UK guarantor. As you embark on this exciting new chapter, understanding the role of a guarantor is paramount in ensuring a smooth transition to independent living.

We recognise the significance of this decision for both students and guardians, so we have put together useful guarantor information to help you make an informed decision.

For additional information, please refer to our Booking & Cancellation Policy.

What is a guarantor?

Anyone planning to move into privately rented student accommodation is likely to require a guarantor. A guarantor is someone who will backup your payments in the event that you miss a payment or can no longer afford it.

Who Can Be My Guarantor?

A UK based person, likely a parent or guardian, who is able to take financial responsibility for your rent if you are unable to do so. A guarantor cannot be another student, or anyone under the age of 22 as well as anyone in a bad financial situation. A guarantor will be required to provide us with their photo ID, proof of address and a copy of a recent utility statement.

The Guarantor is legally bound to pay any unpaid rent or debts accrued during the tenancy if the tenant refuses to pay.

DOES THIS STILL APPLY TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?

Finding a UK guarantor can be more difficult, but does still apply to international students. Overseas Students who cannot provide a Guarantor will need to pay the rent in full or use a Rent Guarantor Service.

what is a rent guarantor service?

If you are unable to provide a guarantor, or don't have anyone in the UK to support you, you can use a Rent Guarantor Service. By using our referral link, you can have support from our trusted partner, Rent Guarantor, in satisfying the needs of the tenancy, with free application and instalment options available. Whilst similar to using a normal guarantor, the tenant is typically required to pay a fee, and will need to provide proof of identification. Once supplied with a certificate, the student can sign a tenancy agreement and move into their accommodation the same way as any other student.
